STRONG COMMUNITY: Demographics

With a daily enrollment of more than 120 children, the CDA serves almost 300 children each year. As of spring, 2010:

  • 39% of our children were African-American; 49% were Hispanic or Latino; 3% were Asian; 9% were Cacausian (not Hispanic, Latino or Asian).
  • 62% of our children were from families where English is a second language. Native languages include Spanish, Portuguese, French, Creole, Yorba, Swahili, Ghanaian and German.
  • The majority of families lived within a ten-mile radius of the center; 85% were residents of Fulton County, but Cherokee, Cobb, Forsythe, Gwinett and DeKalb counties were also represented.
  • Our PreKindergarten graduates matriculated to 15 different elementary schools, including not only Fulton County but also Atlanta Public Schools, Forsythe County, and Gwinnett County.
  • The average annual household income was approximately $20,800.
  • About 90% of the children met CACFP guidelines (the federal food program) for free or reduced priced meals.
  • 96% of the children were from families in which parents were employed 30 or more hours a week or in a full-time education or job training program.
  • The average family size was 3.6
  • The average weekly tuition fee was $68
  • 63% of the children lived in single parent-headed households
  • 1% of the children were being raised by grandparents or other relatives
  • 4% of the children were diagnosed with some type of special need or developmental delay
